The Challenge

Flow Logistics, a rapidly growing logistics company, faced a significant challenge: they lacked a dedicated mobile application for their customers.

This gap in their digital offerings was causing friction in customer interactions and limiting their ability to provide real-time updates and seamless service.

The company needed a solution that would not only bridge this gap but also set them apart in a competitive market.

My Role

As the Lead Designer, I was entrusted with the crucial task of creating Flow Logistics' first-ever mobile application from the ground up.

This role encompassed everything from initial user research and market analysis to the final UI design and usability testing.

My goal was to deliver an intuitive, efficient, and visually appealing application that would streamline logistics management for Flow Logistics' diverse client base.

User Research & Market Analysis

Competitive Analysis

I began by conducting a thorough analysis of the existing logistics applications in the market.

This involved downloading and using apps from major players like FedEx, DHL, UPS, and TNT, as well as examining offerings from smaller, innovative logistics startups.

Key Findings

  • Most existing apps focused heavily on tracking but lacked comprehensive management features.

  • User interfaces were often cluttered and overwhelming, especially for non-technical users.

  • There was a gap in the market for an app that could aggregate shipments from multiple carriers in one place.

User Interviews

To gain deeper insights into user needs and pain points, I conducted in-depth interviews with 20 logistics managers from various industries.

These interviews revealed several crucial insights:

  • Users struggled with managing shipments across multiple carriers.

  • Real-time notifications and updates were highly valued.

  • The ability to generate reports and analytics was a desired feature.

  • Mobile access to shipping documents was a common pain point.

Surveys

To validate the findings on a larger scale, I distributed an online survey to 400 logistics professionals.

The results corroborated my interview findings and provided additional quantitative data to inform my design decisions.
